Specialist Subjects
The school provides a range of enriching programs for all students. Sport, Information Computing Technology (ICT), Chinese (Mandarin) and Music are conducted by specialist teachers.
Physical Education
Our Lady of the River School has a long and rich tradition with sport and has employed a specialised teacher who takes all classes for Physical Education. Students are encouraged to participate in both school and club sports in which we provide them with the opportunity to try out for many South Australian Primary School Sport state carnivals and championships through athletics, all codes of football, tennis, netball and basketball.
Music
Through coordinating classroom music, School Choir and School Band, our music teacher helps develop students’ confidence and appreciation for the art of music and teamwork. Students in Years 3-6 perform at the Riverland Primary Schools’ Music Festival annually, as well as a variety of concerts and official school functions.
Chinese (Mandarin)
We provide our students with LOTE (Languages Other Than English) experiences through our online Chinese (Mandarin) classes. Students will develop an interest and understanding of the Chinese language and culture.
Information Computing Technology (ICT)
Integration of ICT is encouraged in all curriculum areas, leading students to be confident, creative and productive users of modern technology. Students will develop Information and Communication Technology capabilities as they learn to use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas.
Each Year 3-6 student has a school netbook and, students in foundation to year 2 each have access to an iPad in their classrooms. In addition, students are taught coding and robotics as part of the Australian Curriculum as well as a variety of different computing skills.
